Honestly, I have mixed feelings about this banlist.
It's like what's hit got hit, and I'm happy with that. But what I am NOT happy with is that they just decided to make some decks extra good again.
You know I'm talking about Lightsworns. 4 Chaos sorcerers? 2 Gardna? 2 Trago? Banning of Royal Oppression?
We all know Lightsworns don't take skill. It's just all herp derp double JD Chaos sorc all attack for the win.

What I am happy with though, is the obvious limitation of Smoke Signal, Lonefire, Formula, Hyper Librarian, Debris Dragon, Pot of Avarice, and Shi En, as well as semi of Dewloren. Not to mention the bans on the 4 stuffs above. These are the things that HAD to be hit, and I'll give that to konami. But that's all I'll give them credit for.
Summoner Monk at 2? I guess it's fine, but really not the best idea.

No comment about Primal seed, and Swords of revealing light and Gravity Bind. Bull shit that nobody cares about.

D-Draw finally got released to 2. I think 3 wouldn't even be a problem.

JD at 3 is bullshit though. It's like saying, let's all go play Lightsworns because we get to herp derp and sack on more people.
Come on, at least make Bottomless or Book go to 3, to make JD less useful =.=

Next format's gonna be... just totally the same.

Heavy Storm doesn't even make maining Starlight Road worth it, because of the 3 MSTs =.=

  1. Nice to find you blogging :)

List is definitely one of the worst I have seen in recent years. Neither BLS nor storm should have came back.

Instead of promoting control through 141s in the back row, now it's all about mass nuking followed by OTKs.

At least with set 4 you have a chance to stop OTKs. Now, back row is unreliable, and you won't always draw into crow/veiler to stop OTKs. Not to mention crow/veiler can't stop all OTKs.

Here's to another 6 months of sh!tfest, especially in the TCG.

  2. Hi TSOG,

Definitely have to agree with you. I'm okay with Heavy Storm being limited IMO, trunade was technically unstoppable apart from Dark Bribe which was a -1, and Solemn Judgment, both at which comes at high costs. However, with Heavy Storm back, at least cards such as Starlight Road is available now.

However, I do have to agree with the unneeded limiting of BLS. This banlist is clearly aimed at boosting the Lightsworn/Lightlord decks. With 2 Necro Gardnas, 3 Judgment Dragons and a BLS, an OTK no longer takes any skill nor risks to pull off. All it takes is just 2 Judgment Dragons and a BLS. First JD to clear the field, drop the other 2 and attack. Even worse if heavy storm is there.

In my opinion, the only counter to the newly revamped Lightsworn/Lightlords would be Frognarchs, whereby cards such as Battle Fader, Tragoedia and Gorz would be able to prevent such OTKs from happening and buy more time.

Then again, someone will definitely find another loophole somewhere and abuse it, because that's what YGO is about. :)

  3. I am not so worried about LS. I play them, and without consistent mill they are largely incapable of competing with meta deck. Heck I have even dead drawn JDs before.

What I am looking out for is plants, especially tour guide variants, teching BLS. Plant engine is still viable as nothing got banned, and TCG still has the infamous tour guide and XYZ rulings.

Regarding trunade, the way I see it is this:
    1. both trunade and storm lead to possible OTKs
    2. however, with trunade, if you don't lose that turn, you can always reset your s/t
    3. with storm, you can't
    4. negations don't really matter much. Once again SLR with be hyped, and once again it won't see much play when people figure out that drawing the lone SLR in your deck precisely when your opponent play would play storm is not as consistent as one would think. Dark bribe remains nothing more than a tech, and neither cursed seal nor judgment of anubis are anything more than situational or costly.

I actually liked the stormless formats, aside from the lucksack sams and tengus. Game was more about control, and for once slow decks like GKs and hero beat actually had a chance in tournies. Yes SW was/is still a problem, but that's true with or without storm in the meta. D prisons actually saw some play, which is nigh impossible in storm formats. Stormless format forced people to learn to read the backrow, and be cautious about randomly attacking into backrows.

  4. Well, IMO, I sort of prefer the Heavy Storm formats, whereby it prevents people from overextending and setting 5, most of which are fakes, and end their turn. It requires no skill in controlling resources because there's no fear of losing them all.

However, regarding the Plants, I believe that the limitation of Lonefire Blossom and Pot of Avarice will hinder the deck abit, although still powerful, will have a harder time pulling combos off.

About the TCG rulings to XYZ/Exceeds. I have to agree that it is utter bullshit, as now there's plenty of ways to +card advantage without skill. However, I still believe that such rulings does not win you games, and only makes it easier, and therefore can be stopped.

About BLS, teching it into plants just seems to be Konamis way of compensating plant players for taking away their key cards.
